long distance loving*

9 Dec

Most of you know that hubs and I endured 4 LONG years of a long distance relationship before tying the knot and settling in the same country. It was difficult, it was heartbreaking, it was torture, it was frustrating but it was definitely worth every last second…

We are not alone in this – plenty couples have been through or are currently going through the same journey.

Catch our story and many others at long distance loving

These last few months have been super hectic in life, but I promise to try my best to keep it going (even during hectic times!)

Updates to follow soon

Goals and Dreams.

11 Oct

Tracy over at Scribble Smudge had the most wonderful idea.

Why not put all your dreams and goals into a jar at the beginning of the year?

I would love to colour code the paper by daily, monthly and annual gials vs dreams etc (make it easier to evaluate!)

What do you think?

Friends.

28 Sep

Friends. We all have them in our lives and we all need them in our lives. Sometimes we get new ones and get rid of some bad eggs or old ones. Sometimes we keep them for ever and ever. Some we fight with, others we laugh with, some we even cry with.

I have plenty friends. Old friends. New friends. Close friends. Not so close friends. Social friends. Guy friends. Family friends. Happy friends. Destructive friends. Honest friends. And only one best friend. Yes, he is my husband too! I know, super cliched but alas, the truth.

My history with friends isn’t so great and definitely no fairy tale. I have trust issues – always have and unfortunately, probably always will. I don’t know why and I don’t where they came from but I have them. I don’t trust anyone in this big bad world, except my husband (again, very soppy and mushy but the truth!) I don’t trust mom, dad, sister, closest friends, mentors, absolutely nobody 100%. And again, I cannot tell you why. I just don’t!

Hubs is pretty lucky that he is the only soul that made it onto the trusted list, especially because my track record with trusting boys in the past is pretty shady. But he came along, swept me off my feet and then moved to a different country – so I guess from the very beginning we had no choice but to trust each other. And 5 years down the line, he has never betrayed or slightly hindered that trust. On the same note, this makes him my best friend too. Come on, he deserves the title if I can trust him…

Then there are my closest friends (names have been changed to protect these sweet folk):

  • Friend L was my closest friend for years. We spent all day at school, sport, weekends, parties, holidays – you name it, we were together. And then somewhere along the lines, we drifted and outgrew each other. We just seemed to go in different directions and want different things in our lives. The sad part is we don’t speak anymore.
  • Friend N is one of my longest standing friends. We also met at school and as different as we are, we get along like sisters. She is loyal and kind, always smiling and a ray of sunshine to be around. She doesn’t live very close anymore but we are still very close and I love and miss her terribly.
  • Friend S hasn’t been around forever but after spending some precious time together, we just clicked. We know each other inside out and back to front. She is always there for me, no matter where or when and I know I can always count on her. Our friendship has no drama, there is just no room for it.
  • Friend O also went to school with me and although we were very different people then, we seem to be quite similar now. We have spent many special memories together and plenty disco-dancing parties too. We are the same but different and we often follow different paths but along the way, our paths often join.
  • Friend N is an old friend and we met at school. She is funny and witty and our time together is always having fun and in fits of giggles. She doesn’t live close by and I miss her dearly but she is always close in spirit and I know that we will always be friends, no matter the distance.
  • Friend T is a new friend. We are very similar and surprisingly we do not clash, we get on super well. We could be twins we seem to be so alike and each moment spent together proves this. She is so gentle and loyal I can always count on her. Our paths crossed later on in life but they are forever entwined.
  • Friend P is a school friend. We are extremely different, almost opposites. Our friendship seemed to be a seasonal one yet it has stood the test of some time. All friendships seem to have their roller coaster moments, this one included. Some days I adore her but others I could ring her neck (within reason, of course). We have entered into the school of destruction a few times, but have been saved by the bell.
  • Friend K is not old or new but she is a sweet friend. We clash every now and then (again within reason) but that is just how we are meant to be. No friendship is perfect but our time spent together is fun and frivolous but I am unsure at how deep things go…

We all have different friends and as mentioned before, some will stay and others will go but ultimately, we can pick and choose. My only advice is to do so wisely. Don’t keep the bad garbage around because it will eventually start to smell. Keep smelling the sweet, pretty roses and letting the sunshine in – it will only make you smile.
